The Letter M

The letter M is the thirteenth letter in the modern Latin English alphabet. M hails from the Phoenician "Mem", and from the Greek alphabets "Mu". The Phoenician Mem in turn is derived from a Egyptian hieroglyph that symbolized water.

The letter M only really has one look. The capital M has pointed joins at the top but the lower case M has curves instead. When used in sign language, it is denoted by three fingers on the palm, which creates the look of the letter M.

Many words will use double Ms in words, but this can be difficult to do in a game of scrabble. Instead, you need to look for the more simple words available.

There are two letters M in the Scrabble letter set. They are worth 3 points each, which is not a big yield but being a rare letter, the M does open the doors for a lot of words that you often don't get the opportunity to lay in Scrabble, due to the scarcity of M.
