The Letter D

The letter D is number four in the basic English alphabet. D began its life as the Semitic letter called 'Dâlet'. Researchers believe a logogram symbolizing a door, or perhaps a fish gave rise to this letter. In the Greek alphabet, the D is known as 'Delta'.

The letter D has hardly gone through any changes since it started. It can be written in very few ways – both lower and upper case – and it is used in a lot of words. The letter is commonly used as a way to make a word turn into the past tense, and commonly used after the letter E. It makes it one of the most common letters in the English language.

A capital letter D is commonly used to donate Germany – since the German for it is Deutschland. This is seen on many items, including car number plates and on the stone for the boundary between Germany and Austrian.

In the Vietnamese language, the D is commonly used in place of the letter Z and in the southern area it may have a J sound to it. Like all letters, this is one that changes depending on countries and can sometimes have a T sound, especially in languages such as Gaelic, Mandarin and Icelandic.

The letter D is commonly used in the emoticon :D, which represents a big smiley face. This is commonly seen in instant messaging, forums, emails and even text messages. It is also a letter that is used as a note in music. The D note comes between C and E and also has the sharp or flat variation, depending on whether you are supposed to play a semitone higher or lower.

The letter D is also used as a grade in school. This is usually used to note that work is below average. Many students who are getting Ds in school will not be able to play sports or join in with other extra-curricular activities. This is aimed at getting them more interested in their studies and to give them the incentive to try harder. The D can have a + or – afterwards to note whether it is slightly higher or lower but not worth the next grade up or down, respectively.

You have a decent chance of coming across at least one D every time you play Scrabble, as there are four Ds in the game. They will each give you two points. There are many short words beginning with D in English, so it can be a great help to have a D on hand if there are no good openings for you to place a longer word. It is also possible to turn many words into the past tense, whether you have the E or not.

The Letter C

C is the third letter in the English alphabet. The C is related to the letter G. The letters exact origins are not certain to us, but some scholars say it is derived from an Egyptian hieroglyph depicting a staff. The C can be very confusing for new comers to the English language, as it is used interchangeably in words where the C is sometimes silent, sometimes sounds like S, Z or K.

C has developed throughout history and has been used in the place of many other letters, mainly K. The origins of the letter may have come from the Greek letter Kappa, which many others believe is K.
The sound of the letter can change, depending on the placement of it and other letters surrounding it. However, originally in the Roman alphabet, it was used and only spoken as the letter K. This has been continued in some of the Celtic languages, such as Irish, Gaelic and Welsh. In the Old English, the letter was only used to represent the letter K and this can be seen with the development of some of the words.

For example, kin would have been written as cyn and broken would have been written as brocen. This developed as the C started to represent other letters, such as S and Z, when used with other letters. The C has an S sound when used in front of vowels. This is something that was brought in during the 10th century. In other languages, the use of the letter C in place for other letters was used much sooner.

The C can be replaced in many worse with the letter S. This often changes the meaning of the word and can also lead to a change in verb or noun. However, the S or C debate also depends on certain English languages. For example, the American English language will use C in the words a lot more often than using S. One example of this is “practice”. This is used for the verb and the noun in the US English, but in the UK English “practice” is the noun (a Doctor’s Medical Practice) while “practise” is used for the verb (to practise something).

There are exceptions to every rule and this is commonly seem in some of the older words, including Celt and soccer. While the general rule would be a softer S sound because of the following vowel, it is actually a harder K sound.

The letter C is also a note in music and is commonly used with a sharp or flat notation afterwards to determine whether it is higher or lower by a semitone. The letter is also used in grade markings and is commonly used for when something is “average”. This means that it is not terrible but there is a lot of improvement that can be used. In the UK GCSEs, a C is the lowest pass mark possible.

The Scrabble tile pouch contains only 2 C, each worth 3 points. The C is relatively easy to place since it is part of many words. It can often be successfully applied to form a new word from an already laying word, for example 'art' can become 'cart', or 'are' can be become 'care'.

The Letter B

The letter B is the second letter of the alphabet. It is a consonant and represents a so called 'bilabial' sound - you must use both lips when articulating it. The B is rumored to have its origins in Egyptian hieroglyphs, where its shape was used to represent a floor plan of a building. There are also links to the Ancient Greek letter, beta, which was the second letter of that alphabet.

The letter has developed through languages and times and the lower case b is based on the Roman times, which is when the scribes started to take out the upper loop of the capital B.

The letter B is often a silent one in the English language, especially when an M immediately precedes it. This is usually in the case of words such as bomb and lamb. When a T is used immediately after the letter, the B is also silent. This is seen in words such as debt and doubt. This is very common with many languages that are based on the Latin languages.

This is completely different with other languages. There are many that will change the sound, depending on other letters around it or depending on the representation. This is common in languages like Estonian, Chinese and Zulu.

The letter B is also a musical note but may also be followed by a sharp or flat, to determine whether the note is a semitone higher or lower. The note can be high or low, depending on the area that the letter is written on the stave. The most common ones are when it is sitting on the top line or covering the second line up on the bass line, and when it is written on the third line up on the treble clef.

The letter B is not one of the most common letters used in the English language but it is an important one. However, it can make a game of scrabble difficult when you find yourself with that letter.

With only 2 tiles in the Scrabble game, B is a scarce letter. The B yields 3 points which is not considered high, but if you manage to place a word over a word bonus tile, getting a B in there can bring your score up significantly.

The Letter A

The letter A is the first letter of the alphabet and the first vowel that you will come to. It is the third most used letter in the English language – and the second most used in French and Spanish – and is based on the first letter of the Greek alphabet – Alpha.

In the Phoenician alphabet, the first letter was aleph, which is what A is also based on. However, aleph was just a consonant, which is what the Phoenician alphabet was made up of. In the Egypitan hieroglyphs, there are thoughts that the letter A would be been the Ox. In the Phoenician alphabet, the first letter was commonly a glottal stop, but this was not required in the Ancient Greek alphabet, and alpha was born.

The letter has gone through a number of changes through its time and can be written in a variety of ways. The letter alpha is commonly written on its side while the letter A is written upright. This is just one development of the letter. The letter changed during the time in the Greek alphabet, and was sometimes written with one leg shorter than the other or by drawing the cross at a different angle.

Even now there are adaptations to the letter. There are many who will write the smaller letter with a double-story to it, which is something that most computer fonts will write it as. There are others who prefer the single story letter when in lowercase. That single story letter can also be written larger for the uppercase letter – it can be written at the traditional A. The single story of just a circle with a stroke vertically is known as the Latin alpha and the script a.

The letter is one of the five vowels (six if Y is included) but is one that can be used on its own to make a word. The word “a” helps to start a sentence when it comes to talking about a single object. It can also be spoken in two different ways – both on its own or within a word. This will all depend on the type of letters that surround it and whether the next word as a vowel at the start or not.

The letter A is also given during grading for students and also to note that something is better. A grade A is often the highest possible, unless a + or * is placed afterwards. A grade restaurants are the highest in quality of cleanliness and A-list celebrities are those who earn the most and are the most followed. This form of grading is a great way to see whether someone can improve and has been linked to helping with that.

In English Scrabble, there are nine A tiles, each yielding 1 point. A is a good base letter to have on hand, as it can be used to construct many other words, but it is a low yield letter so you should avoid playing it on letter bonus tiles.
